April 30-May 18: THREE VIEWINGS by Jeffrey Hatcher
A funeral parlor in a small Midwestern town is the setting for three darkly funny and touching short plays. Meet Emil, a respectable, mild-mannered undertaker; Mac, an upper-class drifter and jewelry thief; and Virginia, the suburban widow of a wheeler-dealer contractor. Award-winning playwright Jeffrey Hatcher’s trio of incisively witty narratives explore the extent to which we all hold on to memories, money, life, and love.
June 4-22: BUYER AND CELLAR by Jonathan Tolins
After being fired from Disneyland, struggling actor Alex More lands a job curating Barbra Streisand’s legendary basement shopping mall beneath her Malibu home. When Streisand eventually comes down to peruse her collections of costumes, dolls and other trinkets, the two strike up an unlikely relationship. Jonathan Tolin’s fictional chronicle is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs. This production is a collaboration with Renaissance Theaterworks.
July 16-August 10: THE 39 STEPS adapted by Patrick Barlow
In this wonderfully inventive parody of the 1935 adventure film, the entire plot is reenacted by a cast of only four actors, giving this tale a comic twist. Follow the adventures of our handsome hero, Richard Hannay (complete with stiff upper-lip) as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. Thus Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller is brilliantly and hilariously recreated for the stage!
September 24-October 12: RYAN’S PUB, TRIVIA NIGHT by Alec Silberblatt
Marci and Richie are the best trivia team this side of the Monongahela River. And have they got a story to tell! A story about trivia night at Ryan’s Pub in Pittsburgh. A story about cheaters in billowy khakis, bosses with big watches, and bartenders in tight t-shirts. A story about coming face to face with demons. So, grab a seat, pop a can of Iron City, and enjoy Alec Silberblatt’s quirky, distinctive storytelling!
December 3-28: A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A LIVE RADIO PLAY adapted by Joe Landry
With the assistance of a gifted musician and foley artist, the five WBFR players bring scores of colorful characters, inventive sound effects, and musical underscoring to vivid life. In this unique, family- friendly production, our talented team of artists creates an authentic 1940’s radio experience in front of a live studio audience. You’ve never experienced Charles Dickens’ holiday classic quite like this!
