Performers rehearse for “The Call List” at Third Avenue PlayWorks. Submitted.
Rehearsals are underway for The Call List by Brian James Polak at Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) in Sturgeon Bay.
The Call List is presented as part of World Premiere Wisconsin, a statewide festival celebrating new plays and musicals through 2026. The one-woman show runs at TAP from Sept. 23 through Oct. 11, featuring Door County favorite Eva Nimmer.
The play follows Sam, a restless dreamer in search of purpose. When her law firm boss hands her a list of names and a task – call them all and announce a client’s death – her mundane workday takes a bizarre turn.
Even before its first official performance, The Call List has garnered recognition as a semifinalist at both Seven Devils New Play Foundry Playwrights Conference in 2025 and B Street Theatre’s Comedies Festival in 2019.
The play was previously workshopped at the Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) in 2023, so in collaboration with DKAF, a post-show conversation will illuminate the process of bringing The Call List from the page to the stage. The conversation will follow the 7:30 pm performance on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Local nonprofit Prevent Suicide Door County is the community partner for the show and will benefit from a pay-what-you-will preview performance on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm for general-admission seating. Half the proceeds from the event will benefit Prevent Suicide Door County, and donations can be made at the lobby display throughout the run of the show.
