Dan Klarer, a theatre artist who acted in The 39 Steps at Third Avenue PlayWorks this past summer, will lead classes there this winter. Submitted.
Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) will host winter theatre workshops led by actor and TAP Community Engagement and Education Coordinator Dan Klarer. Classes will be available for adults and teens aged 13 to 18 years old.
Adult classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for six weeks starting Jan. 12. This workshop will focus on public speaking, designed for participants who would like to explore the craft of performance, whether they’re interested in learning the fundamentals of acting for the stage, how to overcome stage fright, or how to enhance communication and presentation skills for work and life.
Teen classes will be held on Sundays from 2 to 4 pm for six weeks starting Jan. 11. Through a combination of experiential theatre games and acting exercises, students will learn the fundamentals of acting for the stage in a fun, inclusive, encouraging environment. Players will explore a range of theatre techniques from an actor’s perspective, including improv, physical storytelling, clowning, stage combat and more.
Adult and teen workshops cost $150 per student. Partial to full scholarships are available for adults through a Bader Philanthropies grant. Teen students unable to afford the tuition are encouraged to reach out to Klarer at dan@thirdavenueplayworks.org for assistance.
Klarer is a professional theatre artist living in Door County and working as an actor, educator, fight director, stage manager and costume designer. He has worked for all four of Door County’s professional theatre companies and many others throughout the Midwest.
“Theatre education is human education,” Klarer said. “The skills and experiences that develop through this work are invaluable. Theatre is a gateway to confidence, critical thinking, ensemble building, vocal and physical expression, social-emotional learning – and it’s also a fun way to spend a couple of hours.”
