TAP ANNOUNCES ANOTHER ROUND OF ACTING CLASSES

Sturgeon Bay, WI (February 4, 2026) – Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) announces its spring theatre workshops led by Dan Klarer, Community Engagement and Education Coordinator at TAP. Classes will be available for adults over 18 years of age, as well as teen students aged 13 to 18 years old. Both workshops are now a pay-what-you-will structure with scholarships meeting students where they are financially so nobody is turned away due to cost.

Instructor, Dan Klarer, brings two decades of experience to these workshops. He recently spent time as an interim lecturer of acting at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, teaching movement, voice, scene study, and acting for camera. His full background in the performing arts gives him a unique perspective and he has brought that with him to our wonderful community here in Sturgeon Bay and greater Door County.

“I have a background in sketch comedy and clowning and I was always fascinated by the technical aspects of performance,” says Klarer, “The nuances of timing, dialects and articulation, and physical mastery are so important and I’ve found that these skills can help anyone be not only a better performer, but a more embodied and grounded person.”

Adult classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for six weeks starting March 2, 2026. This workshop will focus on public speaking and is for anyone who would like to explore the craft of performance, whether interested in learning the fundamentals of acting for the stage, hoping to overcome stage fright, or to enhance communication and presentation skills for work and life.

Teen classes will be held on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for six weeks starting March 1, 2026. Through a combination of experiential theatre games and acting exercises, young actors will learn the fundamentals of acting for the stage in a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment. Players will explore a range of theatre techniques from an actor’s perspective including improv, physical storytelling, clowning, stage combat, and more.

Thanks to the generous support of Bader Philanthropies, TAP is able to offer significant financial assistance to ensure these classes are accessible to older adults and participants of all income levels. This funding allows TAP to provide partial to full scholarships for adult students, removing financial barriers to participation.

“Support from Bader Philanthropies makes it possible for anyone—regardless of financial capacity—to take classes with us,” said Jacob Janssen, Jackie & Steve Kane Artistic Director. “We believe theatre should be welcoming and accessible at every stage of life, and this support allows us to live that value in a very real way.”

Adult and teen theatre workshops suggested class fee is $150 per student.

Registrants will have the option to pay the full class fee, a partial fee, or select full scholarship at zero dollars out-of-pocket cost.
