Summer & Fall Workshops Available Now!

Develop your self confidence and resilience, as well as collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills with adult and teen acting classes with our Education Coordinator and accomplished actor, Dan Klarer, at Third Avenue PlayWorks in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. 

Throughout the year, we offer Theatre Workshops with Dan Klarer, a professional theater artist living in Door County and working as an actor, fight director, stage manager, and costume designer. Dan has taught stage combat and worked at a variety of sanctioned workshops through the Society of American Fight Directors and Dueling Arts International as well as taught clowning, Shakespeare, and acting for young people.

Summer Theatre Workshops

Youth Workshop (Ages 8-12)

Monday, July 13 – Thursday, July 16

Teen Workshop (Ages 13-17)

Monday, July 27 – Thursday, July 30

Workshops this summer will be held at TAP from 9am-12pm Monday through Thursday. Each day will be a mix of improv and theater games plus acting exercises with emphasis on creating your own mini play! No prior acting experience necessary. Each week-long session is limited to a maximum of 12 participants.

Suggested Class fee: $150 per person

Adult Theatre Workshop

Six-Week Session Starting September 28th

Mondays 4:30-6:30 pm

(all experience levels welcome)

Adult workshops will be held on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. running for six weeks starting September 28th. Following the six week session, theatre workshops will continue starting November 2 on a drop-in basis. These workshops will be focused on scene study and monologue preparation. Each day will begin with improv and theater exercises followed by acting technique and character development for scene work. The six-week session has a suggested value of $150 and drop-in classes are a $25 value per week.

Following the 6-week course we will resume our drop in classes each week focusing on improv and theater games (Suggested fee: $25 per class).

About Your Theatre Workshop Instructor

Dan Klarer, actor and director headshot

Education Coordinator & Actor Dan Klarer

Dan is a professional theater artist living in Door County and works as an actor, educator, director, stage manager, and costume designer. He has performed these jobs and more for theater companies around the Midwest. Dan teaches theatre skills for ages and directs stage combat through the Society of American Fight Directors at various theaters, schools and workshops. Dan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama from UW-Stevens Point and his Master of Arts degree in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.

Through a combination of experiential theatre games and acting exercises, young actors will learn the fundamentals of acting for the stage in a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment. Players will explore a range of theatre techniques from an actor’s perspective including improv, scene study, physical storytelling, clowning, stage combat, and more. 

The benefits of theatre training can last a lifetime. Theatre helps players develop self confidence, resilience, as well as collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills. All teens ages 13 to 18 are welcome, no experience needed.
